About 100km north of Gothenburg there is an island called Skaftö, where the YMCA has a youth centre, which is owned and run by the YMCA in Jönköping.
Skaftö is one of many islands along a coast of breathtaking beauty. Orust and Tjörn are two other well-known islands nearby. Skaftö is the perfect place for swimming, fishing or simply enjoying the sea and the sun.
The YMCA building has 13 bedrooms with 2-6 beds in each room. There are also assembly rooms with fireplaces, a stove and a wellequipped kitchen.
On the lawn not far from the building you can play volleyball and down by the sea there is a football pitch. You can also go for walks along the many footpaths to enjoy the beauty of the island.
Crossing the bridge to the mainland you can take a trip to the town of Lysekil and the Aquarium, Havets hus, there to take a look at the fascinating sealife which you can find in the waters along the coast. You can partake in a sealsafari with professional guides from the marin-biological station.
Further out on Skaftö are several lovely fishing villages which have presently been taken over by summer visitors. There you can view the old houses and fishing sheds. |
